On a hot, sunny afternoon in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley, “Extra” host Mario Lopez leads a group of enthusiastic kids from the Boys and Girls Club in a calisthenics drill – along with two somewhat reluctant New Yorkers who build exotic fish tanks for a living.

Occupy Mariachi? 100 Mariachi Bands to Take to LA Streets over Wages and Immigration


On Dec. 12, over 100 mariachis are planning to march on Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles to denounce the growing exploitation of their industry and demand legalization for all immigrants and families.

The mariachis, lead by Arturo Ramírez, plan on wearing traditional Charro outfits and playing the mariachi hymn, “El Son de la Negra,” during next week’s protest. (read more at

Paco, Crime-Fighting Chihuahua, Becomes International Sensation


Sudden worldwide fame has left Paco, the crime-fighting Chihuahua, unimpressed.

“Smile, Paco!” cooed Lynda Alvarado as she snapped pictures of the sleepy pooch resting in his dog bed behind the counter of the Ace Smoke Shop in Altadena, Calif.
